About Janakpur & Ram Janaki Mandir
Janakpur, located in the Terai plains of southern Nepal, is one of the most sacred cities in Hinduism. It is the birthplace of Goddess Sita (Janaki) and the site of her legendary Swayamvar where Lord Ram broke the divine bow and won her hand in marriage.
The Temple
The Ram Janaki Mandir (also known as Janaki Mandir or Naulakha Mandir) was built in 1910 by Queen Vrisha Bhanu of Tikamgarh, India. The stunning white marble and sandstone structure features:
- 60 beautifully decorated rooms
- Rajput and Mughal architectural fusion
- Intricate lattice work and painted ceilings
- Sacred courtyard where the wedding is performed
How to Reach Janakpur
From Kathmandu: 30-minute domestic flight or 8-hour drive via Narayangadh highway.
From India: Nearest Indian border town is Sitamarhi/Madhubani (Bihar). Cross at Bhitthamore/Jaleshwar border and drive 30 minutes to Janakpur. Indian citizens do NOT need a visa.
Best Time for Wedding
The best months for a destination wedding at Janakpur are October to March when the weather is pleasant (15-25 degrees C). The most auspicious dates can be determined by our Pandit Ji based on your horoscope.
Major festivals like Vivah Panchami (November/December) — the day Ram and Sita's wedding is celebrated — is an especially divine time to get married here.
Getting married at Janaki Mandir on Vivah Panchami is believed to bring the same blessings that Ram and Sita received from the gods.
