The Ultimate EBC Packing Checklist
Packing right for the Everest Base Camp trek can make or break your experience. Pack too much and you'll be exhausted. Pack too little and you'll be cold, wet, or uncomfortable. Here's our insider packing list based on guiding hundreds of trekkers to EBC.
๐ก Pro tip: Your porter carries your main bag (max 15kg). You carry a daypack (5-7kg) with essentials for each day's trek.
๐ Clothing โ Layering System
Base Layer (Moisture-wicking)
- 2-3 synthetic or merino wool t-shirts
- 2 pairs thermal base layer (top + bottom)
- 3-4 pairs trekking socks (merino wool recommended)
- Underwear (synthetic, quick-dry)
Mid Layer (Insulation)
- 1 fleece jacket or pullover
- 1 lightweight down jacket (we provide rental option)
- 1 pair trekking pants (convertible zip-off recommended)
- 1 pair warm fleece pants (for cold evenings)
Outer Layer (Wind/Rain Protection)
- 1 waterproof/windproof jacket (Gore-Tex or equivalent)
- 1 pair waterproof pants (optional but recommended)
Extremities
- Warm hat / beanie
- Sun hat / cap
- Buff / neck gaiter
- 2 pairs gloves (lightweight + insulated)
- Sturdy trekking boots (broken in!)
- Camp sandals / flip-flops

- Daypack (30-35L) with rain cover
- Duffel bag for porter (60-70L)
- Sleeping bag (-15ยฐC rated, or use our rental)
- Sleeping bag liner (silk or fleece)
- Trekking poles (highly recommended)
- Headlamp + spare batteries
- Water bottles ร 2 (1L each) or hydration bladder
- Water purification (tablets or SteriPEN)
- Quick-dry towel

- Sunscreen SPF50+ (high altitude = strong UV)
- Lip balm with SPF
- UV sunglasses (Category 3-4)

- Heavy books (use Kindle or phone)
- Laptop (unnecessary weight)
- Too many clothes (you'll wear the same 2-3 outfits)
- Jeans (heavy, don't dry, uncomfortable)
- Cotton t-shirts (trap moisture, cause chills)
- Full-size toiletries (decant into small bottles)
- Expensive jewelry
