Gosaikunda is a cluster of 108 sacred alpine lakes at 4,380m, believed to be created by Lord Shiva when he struck his trident into the mountain to create water after consuming poison during the churning of the ocean. Hindu and Buddhist pilgrims flock here during Janai Purnima festival. The trek passes through lush rhododendron forests, high ridgelines, and pristine alpine meadows with stunning panoramic views of the Langtang, Ganesh, and Manaslu Himal ranges.
Scenic 7-hour drive through the foothills to Dhunche, the headquarters of Rasuwa district and gateway to the Langtang region. Evening walk and overnight at a local lodge. Drive: 7 hrs.
Trek through beautiful oak and rhododendron forests, climbing steadily uphill. Arrive at Sing Gompa β a small settlement with a Buddhist monastery and a yak cheese factory. Views of Langtang Lirung, Ganesh Himal, and Manaslu. Trek: 5-6 hrs.
Above the treeline, the trail crosses open alpine meadows and ridgelines with spectacular views. Pass Saraswati Kunda and Bhairab Kunda before reaching the main Gosaikunda Lake β a breathtaking turquoise lake surrounded by rocky peaks. The reflection of Lauribina mountain on the lake surface is ethereal. Trek: 5-6 hrs.
Explore the sacred lake complex. Walk around Gosaikunda Lake, visit Surya Kunda, and hike up to Lauribina La Pass (4,610m) for panoramic views of the entire lake system. Perform puja if desired. The stillness and spiritual energy at this altitude are profound. Hike: 4-5 hrs.
Retrace steps downhill to Sing Gompa. The descent is much quicker. Enjoy yakura (yak cheese) and butter tea at the cheese factory. Trek: 3-4 hrs.
Descend to Dhunche and drive back to Kathmandu. Arrive evening. Free evening for shopping or relaxation. Farewell dinner. Trek: 3-4 hrs + Drive: 7 hrs.
