Do You Need a Visa for Nepal?

Most international travelers need a visa to enter Nepal. The good news? Nepal offers a simple visa on arrival at Kathmandu airport and major land borders.

Indian nationals do NOT need a visa under the Nepal-India friendship treaty. Valid documents: Indian Passport, Voter ID, or Aadhaar Card.

๐Ÿ’ก Carry your passport โ€” required for domestic flights in Nepal and national park entry.

Visa Extension

Extend at Department of Immigration in Kathmandu/Pokhara. Fee: $3/day. Max stay: 150 days/year.

SAARC Countries โ€” Free Visa

Citizens of India, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Maldives, Pakistan, Sri Lanka get free 30-day visas. Chinese citizens also free.

Trekking Permits

  • TIMS Card โ€” NPR 2,000 for organized treks
  • National Park Permit โ€” NPR 3,000 (Sagarmatha, Annapurna)
  • Restricted Area Permit โ€” $500+ (Upper Mustang, Dolpo)
